August 29, 2012 | Symphonic Shakespeare at the Hatch Shell

We’re pretty sure that the totally ’90s soundtrack to Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo + Juliet — Des’ree! Everclear! The Cardigans! — is gathering dust somewhere in our stacks of old CDs. But this Wednesday is giving us Shakespearean sounds with far more staying power. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and Boston Landmarks Orchestra are teaming up for Symphonic Shakespeare, a free outdoor performance at the DCR’s Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. Company members will perform scenes from Hamlet, Henry V, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream while the orchestra serves up selections of Shakespearean scores by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Walton, and Mendelssohn. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and you can find more details here.
